Why does my PC take forever to start up when i shut down completely?

i've run a health check that came back clear, checked for viruses, spyware, adware, malware the lot...I even removed limewire and windows live messenger that my daughter installed but it still seems to take at least 10-15 mins before I can log on..

It could be that too many programs are trying to start when windows loads try cutting back to only the essential programs.

Most don't need to be started when you start your computer

Your problem is a fundamental part of running the windozzzzzze operating system. Go get a Mac and find out how nice computing can be.
sound like you hard drive

try freeing space on it to do this click on

start

control panel

performance and maintenance

free up space on you hard drive

you need 200mb min after
the main reason in slow, is too many programs running or starting.
whenever you start computers afresh, it'd go through the stage called POST..Power On Self Test, this is to make sure all the hardwares are working, but if you're talking about the computer starting after you logon, then it's the items in your startup, i'd advise you find a startup accelerator.
Have you tried Ccleaner? Run the ISsues tool, then the Cleaner. Thn click Tools - Startup and stop stuff like your office suite loading on Startup.
