HELP! My computer has been hijacked!!!!!!!?

I went to what I thought was a reputable site.... and it started downloading all kinds of things to my computer. I never clicked on anything to approve any of it. Now all these ads are poping up all the time!!!!!

I ran the Norton Spyware program and it found numerous adware, spyware, etc. I deleted all of them. But popups still appeared.

So I downloaded Lava-Soft Ad-ware and it found several trojans and hijacking programs. I deleted all of them. But the ads still popup! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what people will tell you..

YOU CANNOT REMOVE SPYWARE

there will be traces and registry keys and all sorts of loopholes left. And also for piece of mind, a fresh install of windows is best.

And the best way to prevent spyware in the first place is to use a browser like Firefox, which prevents automatic software downloads and popups.
