I agree with the others that the google or yahoo toolbar's pop-up blocker is great to catch pop-ups. You have to be careful that it doesn't block pop-up windows within a website that you want to see. You can click on the pop-up icon in the toolbar and choose to allow pop-ups from websites you think are OK.
